The technology we use at our centre

In eye surgery the outcome depends on the quality of the measuring and treatment devices as much as on the surgeon’s experience. At our centre the diagnostic and treatment process is carried out under the headings below.

Diagnosis and measurement

  • Corneal topography and tomography: Anterior and posterior surface maps of the cornea, thickness distribution and tomographic indices — the basis of keratoconus screening and laser planning.
  • Optical biometry: Axial length, anterior chamber depth, lens thickness and keratometry measurements for intraocular lens power calculation.
  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT): Cross-sectional assessment of the retina, the macula and the retinal nerve fibre layer.
  • Specular microscopy: Corneal endothelial cell count; particularly before intraocular lens and cataract surgery.
  • Visual field and intraocular pressure measurement: In the diagnosis and follow-up of glaucoma.

Treatment

  • Robotic excimer laser platform: Used in LASIK, Q-LASIK, LASEK, PRK and transepithelial PRK procedures.
  • Microkeratome system: For creating a thin and regular flap in Q-LASIK.
  • Phacoemulsification system: Removal of the lens and implantation of an intraocular lens in cataract surgery.
  • Corneal cross-linking system: In progressive keratoconus.

Clinical decision support in planning

Refractive and cataract planning at our centre is supported by the RLES AI® clinical decision support software. The software checks the tissue safety floors (PTA, residual stromal bed, residual corneal thickness), the postoperative keratometry window, the device nomograms and the ectasia risk indicators, and it names any measurement that is missing. The software does not make a diagnosis and does not decide on treatment; the final clinical decision always rests with the surgeon.

The choice of device and technique is determined by the structure of the patient’s eye. No technology replaces the preoperative examination and investigations.

Frequently asked questions

Which laser technology is used?

A robotic excimer laser platform is used at our centre; the choice of technique is determined by the structure of the patient’s cornea.

What is RLES AI?

It is a clinical decision support software used in refractive and cataract planning. It checks the safety floors and the device nomograms; it does not make a diagnosis, and the surgeon makes the decision.

Which measurements are taken before surgery?

Corneal topography and tomography, pachymetry, biometry, intraocular pressure, tear film tests and retinal examination.

Fifth-generation Robotic Excimer Laser technology is used at Smart Laser Eye Centers.

Since 2026 we have been using AI-assisted 5th Generation (1200 Hz) Robotic Excimer Laser Technology. RLES AI ® artificial intelligence technology, developed for the first time in the world for laser eye surgery and used for the first time in Türkiye by our hospital, is applied with 100% personalised AI-assisted planning in Q-LASIK, LASEK, PRK, TransEpithelial-PRK (NO-TOUCH) and Topo-Guided laser surgery techniques.

More

Med-Logics ML7 LASIK System

The American Med-Logics ML7 Q-LASIK system is a LASIK system used in LASIK eye surgery that provides a safe and rapid recovery. With the ML7 LASIK system, in use in our country and in our clinics since 2023, the flap for LASIK eye surgery can be created in as little as 7 seconds, providing our patients with a painless and, most importantly, comfortable operation. The ML7 system also provides rapid and clear visual recovery within 4-5 hours after surgery. The ML7 system is FDA and CE approved.
